What is RCIA?
RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It’s the way the Church has brought converts into the fullness of the Christian faith for nearly two millennia.
Who is RCIA for?
RCIA is for adults age 18 and older who are interested in learning about and becoming Catholic. It’s for those who are not Catholic, or those who have been baptized but not have received the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation. If you were baptized and have received First Communion, you’ll want to register for our Adult Confirmation program. What happens in RCIA?
RCIA prepares you to receive the sacraments of Baptism (if applicable), Confirmation, and the Eucharist. You’ll prepare for approximately six months in the program to receive the sacraments at Easter. You’ll then spend approximately seven more weeks until sessions concludes at Pentecost (typically late May).
What will I EXPERIENCE in RCIA?
You will learn how to listen to Jesus through his words. You’ll learn what we believe, how we worship, and the way we live as Catholic Christians. If you choose to receive the sacraments, you’ll be introduced to the mysteries of our faith. But in the end, it’s not what you know, but Who you know! Christianity is not simply a philosophy or a set of teachings or principles to live by. Christianity is a relationship with the living God through Jesus Christ and his Church. You will learn more about and deepen your personal relationship with Jesus Christ as part of your journey.
What if I’m not sure I want to become Catholic?
No problem. All of us have been there at one time or another and we all need to discern the path to which we are called. Some are ready immediately. Some take more time. It’s different from person to person, and that’s because we’re all different and God has a unique plan for each of us. Our team is here for you.
